Southington CyberKnights Honored as
FIRST CT All-State Robotics Team of the Year

The Southington CyberKnights were awarded the prestigious title of CT FIRST Robotics Team of the Year this Tuesday, at the inaugural CT High School Coaches Association Robotics Banquet at the Aqua Turf. This recognition stands as a testament to the CyberKnights exceptional accomplishments, unwavering dedication, and remarkable achievements, both on and off the playing field.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 FIRST Robotics Competition season, the top 10 teams in the state became eligible for Team of the Year. It was determined that the selected team must be a ‘true model for other teams to emulate that best embodies the mission of FIRST through excellent robot design, competitive game performance, continued demonstration of the FIRST Core Values and dedication to the promotion of FIRST and STEM in their community’.

The CyberKnights have been making an impact in Southington, and across the state, since 1998. Their continued success is a culmination of countless hours of hard work, perseverance, and collaborative effort. Working alongside their dedicated mentors, the students have excelled in designing, building, and programming complex, award winning robots for over two decades. Their commitment to continuous improvement and their willingness to embrace innovation and change have set them apart as leaders in the field.

This season, the CyberKnights finished with a record of 50-16-0. They were ranked #1 at the recent CAS-CIAC, CT State Robotics Championship. The team, consisting of over 40 talented and passionate high school students and their mentors, has garnered attention and respect not only within the local community but also throughout the state of Connecticut and beyond.

The CyberKnights achievements extend far beyond competition success. They actively engage in community outreach programs, volunteering their time and expertise to educate and inspire people of all ages. Through workshops, demonstrations, and coaching youth robotics initiatives, the team has ignited a passion for science and technology in countless young minds, fostering a culture of innovation and exploration. This recognition as the first ever CT FIRST Robotics Team of the Year serves as a fitting tribute to the CyberKnights' exceptional contributions and their commitment to excellence. Their achievements reflect not only their technical proficiency but also their embodiment of teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.

In addition to the team's achievement, three CyberKnight students were selected for the first ever All-State Robotics Team. Antonio Bicknell, Sarah Drechsler, and Alyssa Polverari, all graduating seniors, proved they are competitive in STEM fields and true champions of the FIRST Core Values. Antonio Bicknell was also named an All-State Academic Athlete.

The CyberKnights are sponsored by Mohawk Northeast, Otis, Lockheed Martin, Henkel, Raytheon Technologies, Light Metals Coloring, Southington High School, and many others.
