Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

How do we approach local schools to start programs?

A.

Reach out to a local school seeing if there are any teachers or parent volunteers who are willing to help out in running the program and make sure you do this early. FLL teams also require funding and possible fundraisers could help cover those costs. Reaching out to local FRC teams if you are a parent an seeing if they could get involved could really help boost support of the program.

Q.

How can I get my FRC team involved?

A.

FLL is a great oppurtunity for FRC students to get experience working with elementary level kids and growing leadership and teaching schools. Promoting these benefits would provide students with an insentive to participate and aid in your programs. FLL can also be counted as volunteer hours and is a really good way to get lots of hours quickly well getting a lot of experience out of it.

Q.

How do I get my child into an FLL Program?

A.

First reach out to your child's school and see if there are any FLL programs being hosted there. If not, check online to see if there are any local teams open for anyone to join. Once you have found a team, register your child on the FIRST website, which is necessary for competing at FLL CHALLENGE competitions.

Q.

How Long is an Average Session?

A.

It truly depends on which program is being ran. For DISCOVER the tasks are quick and easy and a session only really needs to last for 45 minutes to cover each session, EXPLORE is more hands on as it involves programming and more intricate builds and should last for at least an hour, CHALLENGE takes up the most time as the building and programing takes a long time with constant trial and error and takes around 1-1.5 hours

Q.

Do you need any past qualifications to run a team?

A.

You do not! All you need is a positive attitude to picking up on the basics of FIRST LEGO LEAGUE and commitment to weekly sessions educating students on these fundamentals.
